The series, “New Mexican Landscapes” was inspired by the spiritual experience I had when I first encountered the desert; theses paintings are of great importance to me due to their autobiographical content. Never before had I experienced the profound vastness of nature, realizing how minuscule I really was. I could barely comprehend what I was seeing, massive tumultuous clouds, budding up against clear skies. As I watched the warm light shine down over the land, I was in awe of its magnitude and brilliance. I knew I was witnessing something divine.
In the solitude of the desert I had the ability to quiet myself, taking in, the raw uncensored footage of my surroundings, feeling truly connected with the environment. I was fascinated with the world and thankful to be apart of it.
I then set out to create a body of work capturing the desert, the isolation, the stillness, the warm atmospheric light, I had to ensure I would never forget this profound experience.
